VOLUNTEERING AT THE CHAFFEE
Join us at the Chaffee Art Center in Rutland in celebrating our magnificent 1896 Queen Ann Victorian
mansion, Vermont artists, special exhibits and programs.
Docents - The Chaffee has a corps of individuals who learn about the building and the art work on display in our galleries, then act as private tour guides when people visit. You'll learn about George T. Chaffee, the wealthy industrialist who built our Queen Anne Victorian for his family in 1896, about our permanent collection of art work and about the different works that change throughout our many exhibits. Then share your new knowledge with our visitors! (These very important jobs require a commitment of 1/2 to one full day per week.)
Art Majors/high school students - Do you see art as part of your future professional life? Then you can get some real hands-on experience right here. Assist our Gallery Director in designing and hanging our shows. Work projects like cataloging our permanent collection. No text books here; get your fingernails dirty in a real gallery. (Gallery assistance requires a commitment of scheduled time over the course of a semester. Projects can be accomplished on a more flexible schedule.)
Business Majors/high school students - Besides being the area's premier art showcase the Chaffee is also a business, and a business person's work is never done. (OK, we paraphrased that one.) You'll learn a little accounting, a little design, a little marketing; you'll learn the business of art. (See above for text books, dirty fingernails and time commitments.)
Special note to college students: The Chaffee will work with your school for Intern and Work Study credit.
Art in the Park - Twice a year, in August and during Columbus Day weekend, we bring it all outdoors to the Main Street Park directly across the street. Help set-up, collect donations, make signs, knock down, you name it, we need you.
General help - Didn't go to art school and not planning on a MBA? We can still use your help. There's never a shortage of things to do around here, from making phone calls to fixing leaking faucets to researching artists. And your already busy schedule is not a problem.
Volunteers receive free membership to the Chaffee and all membership benefits such as advance notice and discounted admission for Chaffee events and classes, invitations to Members Only events and special VOLUNTEER recognition in our Annual Report.
