The Art of Dying
November 7, 2014 - December 5, 2014
Opening Reception: November 7, 5pm – 7pm
To commemorate 40 years of Hospice in the United States, the Chaffee Art Center is pleased to present The Art of Dying Exhibit, from November 7th to December 5th. November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Awareness Month, the Chaffee Art Center is pleased to be collaborating with the Rutland Area Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice (RAVNAH), the Rutland Regional Medical Center, and the Rutland Regional Medical Center’s Palliative Care Program to highlight this important subject, which is universal to all. We hope visitors will be moved by the artistic expressions on death and dying; and take away that Hospice is more about LIVING that dying.
The featured works are all accompanied by personal artist statements, reflecting this poignant theme. Artists exhibiting include: Michelle Saffran, Raven Schwan Noble, Helene Ames, Donna Ellery, Denise Letendre Bach, Sarah Ashe, Pat Musick, B. Amore, Althea Bilodeau, Julie Fredette, Florin Strejac, Lowell Snowdon Klock, Peadra, Donald Ramey, Robert Hooker, Joanna Sokolowska, Mary Alcantara, and Briana Barker.
The Wake Up to Dying Project which gathers audio stories about death, dying, and life, in an effort to change the way we think and talk about dying will be an exhibit within the exhibit; installed in a second story room set up for people to sit, listen and share reactions.
Written reflections by the Chaffee Writer’s Group members, will be incorporated in the exhibit, and a community art project entitled Dots of Hope, which was completed by children at Chaffee Art Center’s Autumn Art in the Park Festival. The Dots of Hope are meant to symbolize how community support can be powerful and uplifting.
Opening Reception will be Friday, November 7th, 5 – 7pm and will feature the Hospice Trillium Singers and Sharon Godrick on piano. Refreshments and light tapas will be served.
